Adelaide Cold Laser Pain Relief Clinic’s most commonly treated condition is Chronic back pain. Often stemming from an acute injury such as a vehicle accident or work injury or alternatively, linked to a degenerative disc disease or herniated disc (bulging disc). The large nerve roots and the smaller nerves that supply the lower back can often be irritated and unfortunately the nature of the dysfunction is generally such that pain refers to other parts of the body.

Adelaide Cold Laser Pain Clinic’s low level laser therapy (or cold laser) back pain treatment helps to desensitise irritated nerves which reduces pain and can lead to a sustained reduction in nerve irritability. The anti-inflammatory effect of laser therapy also provides the site of pain an opportunity to repair tissue and improve mobility.

It is important to note that cold laser is not addressing just the symptoms but the causes of back pain. The American College of Physicians has recently included cold laser in their clinical guidelines for patients with chronic low back pain.

Sciatica is the referral of symptoms of leg pain—tingling, numbness, or weakness—that originate in the lower back and travel through the buttock and down the large sciatic nerve in the back of each leg. As with nerve complaints the pain can radiate to other parts of the body.  At Adelaide Cold Laser Pain Relief Clinic we regularly see patients with debilitating sciatic pain, many unable to sit for any period of time and totally frustrated with the unpredictable nature of the condition. Treatment for sciatica is wide ranging including bed rest, medication and surgery.

Laser therapy (or cold therapy) is able to treat sciatica by reducing nerve irritability over cumulative treatments. Many patients who are looking to reduce or cease taking painkillers or for whom injections have failed opt for laser therapy to manage sciatica pain.
