Golfer’s elbow: could cold laser be worth discussing?
A conservative photobiomodulation discussion for medial elbow pain after assessment.
Golfer’s elbow, or medial epicondylalgia, involves pain on the inner side of the elbow. Photobiomodulation has been studied more broadly for tendinopathy and lateral elbow pain; medial elbow care still starts with assessment, load management and differential diagnosis. Suitability and individual responses vary.
Medial elbow pain information
Go deeperCondition in plain English
What is golfer’s elbow?
Golfer’s elbow refers to pain around the medial epicondyle where forearm flexor tendons attach. People may notice inner-elbow discomfort with gripping, lifting or wrist flexion tasks, but these experiences do not confirm a diagnosis.
Other problems may present as medial elbow pain, including referred neck or nerve patterns, ulnar nerve irritation, joint issues, or acute injury. Assessment helps clarify the pathway.
Adelaide Cold Laser does not diagnose golfer’s elbow from symptoms alone or replace physiotherapy, GP or sports medicine care where that is needed.
All care is provided subject to clinical assessment and individual suitability. Individual responses to treatment vary.

Care boundary
When should medical assessment come first?
Seek medical assessment before routine cold laser care after significant trauma, if you have progressive hand weakness or numbness, a hot swollen joint, fever, or another concerning change.
If the diagnosis is uncertain, GP or physiotherapy review may lead. Photobiomodulation does not replace those pathways.
This information is general and does not replace medical advice. All care is provided subject to clinical assessment and individual suitability. Individual responses to treatment vary.
Where PBM sits
How may cold laser fit into care for golfer’s elbow?
Photobiomodulation has been studied in tendinopathy and elbow-pain research more broadly. A dedicated high-certainty evidence stack for medial epicondylalgia alone is thinner than for some other conditions, so public claims stay cautious.
Care often includes load management, grip and task modification, exercise, physiotherapy, and medical review when indicated. Adelaide Cold Laser positions PBM as one option that may be considered alongside those approaches after assessment.

Your first visit
What happens at an initial consultation?
History and assessment. Dr Sam Johnson (Chiropractor) listens to your concern, reviews relevant history and prior care, and assesses the elbow presentation without assuming every inner-elbow pain pattern is golfer’s elbow.
Suitability discussion. You discuss suitability, evidence limits, and whether another pathway should come first or continue alongside cold laser. If care is appropriate, the next step is agreed with you. Where possible, treatment is provided on your first visit.*
Pricing and autonomy. Initial consultation $99. Standard visits $120. Cold laser is private pay and is not covered by private health fund rebates. No lock-in plans. The decision is always yours.
The device. Treatment is delivered with the Multi Radiance MR5 ACTIV PRO, included in the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG 370913). The register entry is a supply listing for the device category. It is not an efficacy endorsement. ALWAYS FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS FOR USE.
*Where possible, treatment is provided on your first visit. This is subject to clinical assessment and individual suitability, and cold laser may not be suitable for everyone. Individual responses vary.
Evidence limits
What does the research say?
There is less high-certainty, medial-epicondylalgia-specific trial evidence than for some other conditions on this site. Rather than invent study cards, this page states the limit plainly and keeps PBM as a discussion option after assessment.
If you want the broader research library context for photobiomodulation, see the research page. Condition-specific claims stay narrower here until stronger medial-elbow evidence is verified for public use.
All care is provided subject to clinical assessment and individual suitability. Individual responses to treatment vary.
Broader care frame
How may cold laser fit with other care?
Options may be complementary. The appropriate route depends on diagnosis, health history, goals and response.
Assessment, diagnosis and referral where indicated. Ask what needs clarification before choosing care.
Often central for medial elbow pain. Ask which tasks to modify and which exercises fit.
One device-based option that may be discussed for selected presentations. Ask how well the evidence fits the diagnosis and wider plan.
Cold laser is one option, not a replacement for medical care. Photobiomodulation does not replace GP care, imaging, medication advice, physiotherapy, exercise guidance, or surgical review when those are clinically appropriate.
All care is provided subject to clinical assessment and individual suitability. Individual responses to treatment vary.
Common questions
Golfer’s elbow and cold laser, answered.
Can cold laser therapy help golfer’s elbow?
It may be worth discussing after assessment. Research on photobiomodulation for tendinopathy and elbow pain exists, but medial epicondylalgia-specific certainty is limited. Individual responses vary, and no outcome is promised.
Is this the same as tennis elbow?
No. Tennis elbow usually refers to the outer elbow. Medial and lateral elbow presentations can share load themes but are assessed separately. There is a dedicated tennis elbow page on this site.
How many visits will I need?
That is not estimated in public information. Adelaide Cold Laser does not use lock-in plans.
Is cold laser therapy covered by private health fund rebates?
No. Cold laser therapy at Adelaide Cold Laser is not covered by private health fund rebates. The initial consultation is $99, and standard visits are $120.
What device do you use?
Adelaide Cold Laser uses the Multi Radiance MR5 ACTIV PRO, included in the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG 370913). That register wording is not a claim that the device will produce a particular result for any individual person. ALWAYS FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS FOR USE.
